From age 8-9 my Grandmother took me, to The Royal Academy, The Tate Gallery, National Gallery, The Victoria and Albert Museum and studied the works of Mark Rothko, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and all the greats. Salvador Dali being one of my favourites.
I studied Music, Art and Graphics at The Emmbrook School for my GCSEs.
During year 9, I found the outside gates to be more of a day to day trend and had difficultly getting along at school".
My music teacher Mr Osmand was a great practical music teacher who I'll always remember with a fond heart.
I'd bunk school so much, I had to sneak into music class without being caught by my head of year, as I'd most definitely get collared and suspended or expelled and Mr Osmand would say, "Ben, you're here, great to see you, now grab a guitar and get in that practice room!"
"I suppose he saw that fire in my eyes when it came to my music."
From brushing shoulders with Rowan Atkinson at a young age, to my Dad playing footy with Robbie Williams, meeting, Damon Hill, John Alesi, Michael Schumacher, Gary Linekar, being life long close friends with one of the best British/Jamaican financial Advisers in England to date, to talking to Mark Morrison about cover songs and having my Grandfather "Keith Dance" and my mother "Sheree Dance" gigging with my step Dad who DJd at Spotlight on Ent, working in pop, dance, country music and all the genres including songwriting, writing and performing the 1970s Southampton Football club song "Saints for the Cup" in the band Frisco, it was inevitable I'd take on a musical career.
After going through an unsteady start to life and being diagnosed with testicular cancer during April 2014 I began my music career as Felix Dance with a song called Eastside, the song went onto UK Swagger and Confetti Digital radio with the popular DJ 1LWil. Eastside picked up over 5000 Shazams and 40k+ views on YouTube.
The song itself was an English and German collaboration and with the superstar actor and DJ 1LWils help, Felix went global and began his professional musical journey.
After some time Felix became Kapono Carmela.
"The name is a combination of Greek and Hawaiian and means Righteous Paradise".
Being diagnosed a 2nd time with cancer in February 2018, things got serious for me,
"My Dad, who I've lived away from since 10 months of age, has tried to keep me in his life, whether via telephone, email or the occasional visit, once told me "Whatever you do Ben, each night when you go to bed, make sure you feel proud about your days work".
